HP 480939-001 450GB 15000RPM SAS 3.5INCH DUAL PORT HARD DRIVE WITH TRAY FOR STORAGEWORKS
In contrast to other HP storage arrays and Proliant servers, HP SAS disc drive modules with distinct firmware and separate trays are accepted by HP MSA2 / MSA2000 controller enclosures and large form factor expansion enclosures. SAS interposers that are mounted to the back of the disc drives transform the native dual port SAS interface into a SCA-40 connector. Although the SCA-40 connector resembles a Fibre Channel (FC) connector in shape, the drives DO NOT use the FC protocol. If you closely examine the interposer, you will notice that the circuitry is quite basic and that there is no bridge or translator chip present. The interposer essentially serves as a port relocator and signal filter to connect to the exclusive backplane of the MSA2.
